I have two questions: 1.) I bought pattern I liked and it has following note: "Use two skeins of floss for the cross stitches." What does that mean? I was able to googled pretty much everything else, but still don't understand this one. 2.) Why do I have to separate strands? People I know who stitch don't separate them. Is there much difference in result and what it is? -- Mart from Europe

- Hi Mart, I think you probably mean "2 Strands". The DMC floss comes together in 6 strands so the first thing you do is separate it into individual strands. Then you combine 2 together and start your stitching. -- Marv Schier from Crosstitch.com -- Aug 13
- Hi, thank you for taking the time. The pdf I downloaded says "skeins", but maybe it is a mistake. This is screen shot of the pdf: http://imgur.com/a/lWxso (the small screen shot of instructions should not break copyright) There is also strands column in colors table and it has always value 2. Strands columng is partially visible on top of the screen shot. In case it matters, I am talking about Dragon Feast pattern. -- Mart from Europe -- Aug 13
- Sorry, not possible to post photos or screen shots on this site. -- Julie from -- Aug 14
- It does tell you how many skeins to buy of certain colors, but the "Stitch with 2 skeins" should read: "Stitch with 2 strands". Sorry for the confusion. -- Marv Schier from Crosstitch.com -- Aug 14
- if you were to use 6strands it would look heavy whereas 2 would a beauty -- elaine from camden n.y. -- Aug 28
- ALWAYS separate the strands, then put them back together. Also, I have noticed that doing this results in fewer knots, and your thread becomes less twisted. If you take one strand and cut it in half to form two strands, make sure you line them up the same direction (i.e. turn one strand around when bringing them together) because thread does, indeed, have a nap. -- Juliana from Guatemala -- Apr 06
