I'm doing a cross stitch project that is on 14 count Aida cloth that is 163 stitches x 97 stitches. I'm trying to use a LoRain stitch converter that calculates the amount of material to use. I don't understand how to find out how much extra to allow for the framing of the piece. Does anyone know how to work the stitch converter? Also, what would the finished size for getting the frame be? -- Linda Delcamp from Brighton, MI

- On 14 count canvas, you get 14 stitches to an inch. I would take the 163 and divide by 14 which is 11.64 and the 97 divided by 14 is 6.92. Round up and it would be about 12 x 7 design size. Add approximately 3 inches of extra fabric, and you should have enough to frame. Unless someone else has a better method. -- Lisa from Douglasville, GA -- Feb 24
- Take number of stitches and divide it by the material count number. So in your case the design size would be 12 x 7. I then allow 3" of extra material on each side for matting/framing. So you would need the material to be at least 18 x 13. Hope that helps. -- Jan from Falling Waters, WV -- Feb 24
- Yarn Tree has a cross stitch calculator on their website. You can book mark it for future reference. You can figure out CDS with either Aida or linen, with an idea of how much fabric to allow for framing as well as how much is needed...hope that helps you out.... -- Sue from TX -- Feb 26
- Hi there I always add 4 inches to the border. Good luck with your projects -- Esther from RI from -- Feb 27
