Asking for someone to give you a pattern they have used is against copyright laws and is illegal yet there are still many requests in here asking for just that. -- Denise from San Diego

- You are WAY wrong. It is NOT illegal to give away or sell a chart that has been used, as long as the seller does NOT keep a copy. Where did you get the idea that this is illegal? Please read up on copyright laws, you are very much mistaken. It IS illegal to make copies of a chart for other people. -- Sue from USA -- Jan 27
- Yes, it's always been ok to sell or give away a book or leaflet. What is not allowed is making a copy to also keep for yourself (or to give away of course). Digital content however is licensed to the person who bought it so technically you can't really give it away once you're done with it. -- Marv Schier from Crosstitch.com -- Jan 28
- Obviously I was only addressing the matter of print charts, not digital. -- Sue from USA -- Jan 29

About Copyrights:
Copyright patterns may not be copied and given to someone else. It's against the law and it's dishonest. On the Internet, one copy can quickly turn into one million which basically takes away the need for people to buy the patterns, which puts the designers out of business. You can give away, trade, or sell the original leaflet though.
In the case of Crosstitch.com patterns, which are by subscription, all patterns are for the members personal use only and may not be given away or re-distibuted in any manner.
